Different historical memories

The DAH Theatre was well-filled with almost 50 visitors when its director Dijana Milošević and her colleagues invited them to an evening dedicated to the presentation of the project “Moving Memories” on 16th November 2022. The event was entitled “Different historical memories”. The historian Dubravka Stojanović and the writer and university professor Igor Štiks were the guest speakers.

In conversation with them, the topics of the two courses that the DAH Theatre had written for the learning platform were deepened: “Women in Contemporary Serbia” and “The Role of Theatre in Preserving Memory and for the Future”. The second course refers to the wars in Yugoslavia during the 1990s and the division of the country. In keeping with the spirit of this course, the discussion was each accompanied by two inserts from the play “Riddles of the Revolution”. Thus the topic was not only discussed, but also staged, performed, experienced.

In the conversation with the audience, “different historical memories” became clear. While the older generation grew up in the Yugoslavia of after World War II, the younger generation still knows about it, but did experience it. An evening in which the not so distant history of Yugoslavia, its dissolution and the new formation of the current states came to life in a moving way.
